Eunice Kennedy Shriver Park in Lecco to reopen with phased access
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver Park in Lecco is set to reopen on September 14, following a closure ordered by the municipality on August 4 due to vandalism and resident complaints. The reopening will follow a gradual, phased schedule designed to manage access and ensure security.
Starting September 14, the park's field area will be reserved exclusively for schools during curricular hours from 8:00 to 16:00. Public access for youth will begin on September 16, with specific afternoon slots on Wednesdays and Fridays from 16:30 to 19:30, accompanied by two street educators.
On September 21, Monday afternoon sessions (16:30 to 19:30) will be added, though these will rely on camera surveillance and variable local police patrols rather than fixed educational staff. By October 1, the schedule will expand to include Tuesdays from 16:30 to 19:30, featuring educational personnel in collaboration with the Girasole Social Enterprise, and Saturdays from 15:00 to 18:00 with street unit operators. This initiative is part of the S.T.R.E.E.T. project, funded by the Lombardy Region.
