Eunpyeong-gu lifts building height limits in Susaek-dong
Eunpyeong-gu has announced that building height restrictions in Susaek-dong will be lifted following the removal of a flight safety zone. This change follows an amendment to the ‘Military Bases and Military Facilities Protection Act Enforcement Decree’, which reclassifies the Susaek Airfield in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, from an aviation operations base to a helicopter-only operations base.
The reclassification significantly reduces the scope of the flight safety zone, with 93% of the original 21.3 square kilometers being lifted. In Susaek-dong, approximately 646,000 square meters are included in the lifting, removing the previous maximum building height limit of 45 meters. This development is expected to accelerate the urban public housing complex project in the former Susaek 14 district, which had been stalled due to these restrictions since 2021.
The Ministry of National Defense stated that the change in base type will not affect military operations. The deregulation also extends to other areas in the northwest Seoul metropolitan area, including parts of Mapo-gu and Goyang-si, potentially boosting regional development projects such as the Changneung New Town.
