Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital develops new wrist ligament treatment
Professor Lee Ju-yeop of Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital has developed a new arthroscopic surgical technique to treat scaphoid لunate and lunotriquetral ligament injuries. The method involves using a suture tape to mimic ligament function, connecting the scaphoid to the triquetrum along the anatomical path of the dorsal scapholunate ligament.
This knotless anchor fixation method is performed entirely via arthroscopy, minimizing incision size and soft tissue damage while preserving wrist rotation. In a study of 35 patients conducted between 2020 and 2022, participants showed significant improvements in pain scores, grip strength, and Mayo Wrist scores. No major complications or wrist catching symptoms were reported during the 12-month follow-up period.
Professor Lee received the ‘Most Outstanding Video’ award at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) annual meeting in Boston for this research. The study results were published in the international journal ‘Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery’.
