EurBee 11 conference opens in Bologna to discuss bee research

The EurBee 11 – European Conference of Apidology has opened in Bologna, marking the most highly attended edition of the scientific congress to date. Organized by CREA’s Center for Agriculture and Environment and the University of Bologna, the event brings together 540 researchers from approximately 50 countries.

The conference features roughly 500 scientific contributions, including 196 oral presentations and nearly 300 posters. Discussions focus on critical issues such as climate change, bee health, biodiversity, pollination, technological innovation, and the sustainability of agricultural systems.

Research highlights the importance of pollinators, noting that over 75% of major global crops benefit from animal pollination. However, 37% of bee species in Europe are in decline due to habitat loss, pathogens, and climate change. CREA President Andrea Rocchi stated that the event underscores the strategic importance of pollinators for global food security and ecosystem protection.
