Albanian lek hits record low against euro at 95.32

The official euro‑lek exchange rate fell to 95.32 lek per euro, the lowest level ever recorded, according to the Bank of Albania. The euro has depreciated 1.5% since the start of the year and 2.8% year‑on‑year, driven by a surplus of euros in the market, particularly from tourism‑related inflows.

The central bank has been intervening by purchasing euros, buying €1.027 billion last year and roughly €2 billion in the 2024‑2025 period, to bolster the lek and curb inflation, which is being steered toward a 3% target. Analysts expect further euro weakness throughout the summer, though any easing of central‑bank support could accelerate the decline.
