Euro Meatpacking Plant in Villa Gobernador Gálvez Reopens After 259‑Day Lockout

After 259 days of occupation and a prolonged dispute, the Euro meatpacking plant in Villa Gobernador Gálvez, Argentina, will resume operations under a five‑year lease with an option to buy signed by a Buenos Aires investor group led by Sergio García. The restart will be phased, beginning with 25‑30 workers and expanding to about 100 employees as the facility is refurbished and production lines are reactivated. The new management also intends to certify the plant for beef exports to China, aligning with recent Chinese approvals of Argentine slaughterhouses. Workers, who guarded the premises for nearly nine months, celebrated the agreement and expect a gradual return of all jobs.

The reopening is viewed as a boost for the local economy in the Gran Rosario region and could add export capacity to a sector that remains a major source of foreign exchange for Argentina.
