BMW iX3 and Zeekr 7GT earn 5‑star Euro NCAP ratings under new 2026 protocols

Euro NCAP introduced its most extensive overhaul of vehicle‑safety testing since 2009, launching new 2026 protocols that evaluate cars across four stages: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, Crash Protection and Post‑Crash Safety. The German‑made BMW iX3 and the Chinese premium electric Zeekr 7GT were the first models tested under the new regime.

Both models achieved the maximum five‑star rating. The BMW iX3 scored 73 % in Safe Driving, 83 % in Crash Avoidance, 86 % in Crash Protection and 95 % in Post‑Crash Safety. Euro NCAP highlighted its physical driver controls, effective speed‑limit detection, robust automatic emergency braking and reliable battery‑isolation systems after impact. The Zeekr 7GT recorded 79 % in Safe Driving, 89 % in Crash Avoidance, 93 % in Crash Protection and 95 % in Post‑Crash Safety. It was praised for its AI‑driven safety suite, child‑presence detection and door‑opening warnings, though its reliance on a central touchscreen for many functions lowered its Safe Driving score.

The results confirm that both European and Chinese manufacturers can meet the stricter criteria, which also include new requirements for electric‑vehicle battery safety and broader occupant‑size testing. Over 70 technical reports were submitted by Zeekr to demonstrate repeatable performance. The five‑star outcomes set a benchmark for future models as the new Euro NCAP standards take effect across the EU market.
