Euro steadies near $1.14 per dollar as Middle East tensions persist
The euro held just above the $1.14 level in U.S. trading on Friday, with quotes ranging from 1.1385 to 1.1410 against the dollar. The price movement was muted, reflecting a lack of fresh signals from the European Central Bank, which kept rates on pause and warned that uncertainty and the energy shock’s impact on inflation remain high.
Geopolitical risks continued to influence markets. The United States carried out its 13th consecutive night of strikes on Iranian targets, while Houthi fighters in Yemen claimed attacks on two Saudi oil tankers, heightening oil‑price pressures. Washington also announced new tariffs on about 60 trading partners, including the European Union, though analysts expect limited immediate market effects.
Currency traders said the market is awaiting the next catalyst, such as industrial and services PMI data from the euro zone and upcoming U.S. figures, before any notable volatility returns.
