Euro-Tandem-Tour 2026 travels through several German regions
The Euro-Tandem-Tour 2026, organized by the HEM Schwerger-Stiftung, is a 700-kilometer cycling event designed to bring people with and without visual impairments together. The tour travels through Hessen, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Rhineland-Palatinate, starting in Seligenstadt and concluding in Obertshausen.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the tour will pass through several regions, including the Märkischer Kreis, Oberbergischer Kreis, and Hochsauerland. Participants travel as a closed group of more than 50 cyclists, including 23 tandems and six individual riders. Under German road traffic regulations (§ 27 StVO), the group has specific rights, such as priority at traffic lights.
Police authorities, including the Siegen-Wittgenstein district police, are coordinating security and managing expected traffic disruptions. Key areas affected by the route include Altena, Letmathe, Wipperfürth, and Meschede. Authorities advise motorists to maintain distance and follow police instructions during the transit.
