Eurobarometer survey reveals European views on agriculture and CAP
The tenth Eurobarometer survey, titled ‘Europeans, Agriculture and the CAP,’ conducted across 27 EU member states between May and June 2026, highlights strong public support for the agricultural sector. Approximately 95% of Europeans consider agriculture and rural areas vital to the continent's future, while 93% view ensuring a stable food supply for the EU as a critical priority.
In Greece, support for the sector is even more pronounced, with 99% of respondents viewing agriculture and rural areas as important for the future. Furthermore, 74% of Greeks describe these areas as ‘very important,’ compared to a European average of 61%.
The survey also indicates broad approval of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In Greece, 82% of citizens agree that the CAP benefits all European citizens rather than just farmers, exceeding the EU-wide average of 70%. The research explores citizen perceptions regarding the role of farmers, EU support for the primary sector, climate change, and challenges facing the European food system.
