Eurocross warns of rising scooter accident risks for travelers
The emergency assistance organization Eurocross has issued a warning regarding the risks of riding scooters while traveling abroad. This year, the center has already recorded 247 reports of Dutch travelers involved in scooter accidents, surpassing the total number of incidents reported throughout all of 2025.
Thailand and Indonesia account for approximately 40 percent of these accidents. Eurocross notes that travelers often underestimate rental scooters in Asia, as many models possess significantly more power than those commonly used in the Netherlands. Other frequent locations for accidents involving Dutch citizens include Greece, Spain, and the Philippines.
The organization attributes the increase to a combination of inexperienced drivers, heavy motorcycles, and unfamiliar traffic conditions. Eurocross advises travelers to remain aware of these risks, noting that medical care may not always be readily available at holiday destinations and accident-related costs can reach tens of thousands of euros.
