Eurofarma slashes Brazil obesity and diabetes pen prices by up to 48%

Eurofarma announced on Thursday, 18 May, a new pricing structure for its locally produced semaglutide injection pens in Brazil. The Poviztra pen for obesity and the Extensior pen for type‑2 diabetes will see discounts of up to 48 % for the 1 mg dose. Extensior 1 mg falls from R$599 to R$309, while Poviztra 0.5 mg drops from R$819 to R$445. Other dose reductions range from 40 % to 46 %, with individual‑purchase discounts also offered. The cuts apply to patients enrolled in Eurofarma’s EuroCuida loyalty program and must be purchased within specified timeframes after the initial acquisition.

The price reductions come as the market for semaglutide‑based weight‑loss and diabetes pens expands, highlighted by the recent launch of a competing product, Ozivy, from EMS. Eurofarma, partnered with Novo Nordisk and holding the only ANVISA approval for a Brazilian obesity‑treatment pen, says the move is intended to keep patients on therapy. “This is one of the moves that keep our patients on treatment,” said Andrea Frazão, director of medical prescribing at Eurofarma.
