Eurokey accessibility usage rises in Upper Austria

More than 6,000 Eurokeys have been distributed in Upper Austria over the last five years. This specialized key provides people with disabilities access to accessible toilets and elevator systems in public spaces.

In Upper Austria, the system provides access to more than 370 public facilities. This includes newly redesigned rest areas managed by ASFINAG and the Upper Austria State Library in Linz. Klaus Widl, President of the Austrian Disability Council, stated that the purpose of the Eurokey is to enable equal participation in society for people with disabilities.

The Eurokey is not automatically issued with a disability pass; instead, eligible individuals must apply for it through the Austrian Disability Council website based on their specific needs. The system uses a standardized locking cylinder that is recognized across many European countries, allowing for international use.
