Abu Dhabi to host inaugural EuroLeague SuperCup in September

EuroLeague Basketball has announced the launch of the inaugural EuroLeague SuperCup, a new competition designed to officially open the European club basketball season. The tournament will be held on September 18 and 19, 2026, at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

The event will follow a Final Four format featuring four elite clubs: reigning champion Olympiacos Piraeus, 2025 champion Fenerbahçe, 2026 finalist Real Madrid, and the host representative, Dubai Basketball. The schedule includes two semifinals on Friday, September 18, followed by a third-place game and the championship final on Saturday, September 19.

This new competition is part of a broader strategic expansion and restructuring of European basketball. Additionally, the league is moving toward a franchise model, with several major clubs including Partizan, Crvena zvezda, Valencia Basket, and others having submitted binding offers to secure long-term franchise status starting from the 2027-28 season.
