EuroLeague seeks NBA partnership as player moves face contractual hurdles

EuroLeague CEO Tinos Buono said the league is exploring a partnership with the NBA to boost revenues, targeting a possible 100% increase. He noted that the NBA’s financial strength could help grow the European basketball market, which currently commands less than 2% of sports media revenue in a $125 billion market.

Separately, EuroLeague forward Mario Hezonja is attempting to trigger his NBA buy‑out clause to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, but Real Madrid disputes the process. The NBA is cautious about “bridge” deals that could allow a player to sign a short‑term contract and then return to Europe, warning that such moves could attract fines and damage the league’s image, especially as the NBA Europe project develops.
