Spain pushes green hydrogen expansion with Repsol funding and EU projects

The Spanish government, through the Institute for Diversification and Energy Savings (IDAE), granted Repsol up to €133.3 million to build a 50 MW PEM electrolyser at the Atlas Electrolyser Plant in A Coruña, with production incentives of €2.2 per kilogram of green hydrogen for ten years, covering 60,634 tonnes. Repsol also received €49.8 million for a 12.27 MW project in Puertollano, after Iberdrola withdrew two earlier bids. In Andalusia, Moeve’s Onuba project in Huelva is advancing as a major green‑hydrogen hub, backed by roughly €1 billion of investment. The EU’s Hydrogen Mechanism has opened a new call for interest in hydrogen‑related infrastructure, inviting operators to submit expressions of interest by 7 September 2026. A separate market survey for the Nordic‑Baltic Hydrogen Corridor forecasts an annual demand of 79.2 TWh by 2040, linking Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany, with a projected corridor capacity of 91 TWh. Industry analyst Quest One called for a stable regulatory framework to accelerate market development across Europe.
