Europe faces political fragmentation amid decline of traditional parties

A Brookings Institute analysis suggests Europe is entering a new political era characterized by the decline of traditional center-right and center-left parties. The study indicates that the rise of nationalist forces in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, the UK, Denmark, and Hungary is partly due to the fragmentation and loss of narrative ability among traditional political poles.

In Greece, the political landscape is marked by significant competition and fragmentation. While the current government remains a central figure, the opposition is divided between PASOK and SYRIZA. Analysts note that the rivalry between these two opposition groups may inadvertently benefit the incumbent Prime Minister, as the opposition struggles to present a unified or cohesive strategic alternative to the electorate.
