Europe faces shortage of 500,000 truck drivers
The European transport sector is experiencing a significant labor crisis, with approximately 502,000 truck driver positions remaining vacant. Despite high demand and salaries reaching up to 6,000 euros per month, the industry struggles to attract new workers.
Data from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) indicates that Europe accounts for about 15% of the 2.8 million global driver vacancies. The shortage is expected to worsen as the workforce ages; an estimated 20% of current European professional drivers are set to retire within the next five years. By 2030, approximately 660,500 drivers in Europe are expected to reach retirement age, potentially widening the labor gap if recruitment does not increase.
