Europe faces temperature drops as cooler air masses move in

A significant shift in weather patterns is bringing cooler temperatures and unsettled conditions to parts of Europe following recent heatwaves.

In the United Kingdom, a polar air mass is sweeping south, causing temperatures to drop by as much as 10°C in some areas. The cooldown is expected to persist through the weekend, with unsettled weather and showers affecting England and Wales, while Scotland remains mostly dry with variable cloud cover.

Similarly, Spain is seeing its late-August heat give way to more unsettled weather due to an atypical deep low-pressure system in the North Atlantic. This system, which could become one of the deepest recorded in August, is expected to bring cooler Atlantic air and moisture to the Iberian Peninsula. While southern and western Spain may remain warm, northern and northeastern regions are expected to see temperature drops of up to 10°C, accompanied by risks of locally strong showers and thunderstorms by Sunday.
