Europe heatwave triggers alerts across Scandinavia and fuels demand for cooling tech

A strong heat dome transporting warm air from the Sahara has pushed temperatures to unprecedented levels in Western and Central Europe. Denmark is preparing an orange‑level heat alert for almost the entire country, with forecasts of up to 35 °C and high humidity, while Sweden issued a yellow alert for its southern region as temperatures are expected to exceed 30 °C. France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland have also placed parts of their territories under red or orange warnings, prompting school closures and public health advisories for vulnerable groups.

At the same time, retailers report rising interest in cooling technologies to cope with the heat. Chinese‑made Dreo TurboCool fans combine airflow with a fine mist that can lower room temperatures by up to 15.5 °C, while Dyson’s portable Husjet Mini Cool hand‑held fan offers up to 25 m s⁻¹ airflow and six hours of battery life. Sony’s Reon Pocket Pro, marketed as a wearable air‑conditioner, claims 15 hours of operation and a dual heating‑cooling function. These products are being highlighted as practical solutions for indoor and on‑the‑go relief during the prolonged heatwave.
