Europe pushes for intelligence autonomy and stronger Franco‑British security ties

European analysts warn that the continent must build its own intelligence capabilities and a strategic vision to avoid becoming a pawn between Washington and Beijing. They cite growing U.S. isolationism and recent sanctions that have restricted European access to American financial services and scientific exchanges.

Separately, around twenty French and British experts convened a "strategic Franco‑British dialogue" to propose deeper cooperation in defence, technology and democratic resilience. They recommend a permanent European security council anchored by Paris and London, alongside Berlin, Rome and Warsaw, to coordinate rapid responses without replacing NATO or the EU.
