Europe remains a key destination amid shifting global travel trends

Recent travel data indicates a shift in global tourism patterns. According to the Long-Haul Travel Barometer by the European Travel Commission and Interrail, overall intention for long-haul travel is cooling. While the intention to visit Europe fell from 38% to 34% among prospective long-haul travelers, the region maintains its share of the market, accounting for approximately two-thirds of total long-haul travel intention.

Market interest varies significantly. China shows the highest interest at 54%, though this is a 15% decrease from the previous year. Brazil remains stable at 45%, while South Korea saw a slight increase to 36%. Conversely, intentions have softened in Canada and Australia.

In the United Kingdom, ABTA’s Holiday Habits survey reports that Spain remains the most popular destination for British travelers, with interest increasing by three percentage points over the last year. The report notes that while popular destinations remain consistent, there is a growing trend toward novelty, with 54% of UK travelers planning to visit a new city or resort and 48% planning to visit a country they have never been to before. City breaks, beach holidays, and countryside breaks are all seeing increased popularity.
