Europe sees rise in reported ‘rain disease’ cases

Reports of a phenomenon colloquially termed ‘rain disease’ are increasing across Europe, with 120 confirmed cases noted. Experts clarify that this is not the name of a new official pathology, but rather a term used in public debate to describe health conditions associated with high humidity, rain, and changing environmental factors.

Virologist Fabrizio Pregliasco has cautioned against simplistic interpretations, noting that a temporal coincidence between rainy periods and health manifestations does not automatically prove a direct cause-and-effect relationship. He emphasized the need for epidemiological data to understand the context. Experts suggest that while humidity and temperature changes can influence the presence of certain microorganisms, rain itself should not be viewed as the sole direct cause of these disturbances.
