Europe heat dome expected to bring high temperatures through October

A strong anticyclonic system, described as a ‘heat dome’, is developing over Europe, bringing unusually high temperatures that could persist until the beginning of October. This phenomenon is driven by warm air being pulled from the Mediterranean and North Africa toward the central and northern parts of the continent.

In the Iberian Peninsula, temperatures in Spain and Portugal are expected to reach between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. France is also anticipated to experience significant warmth, with temperatures in southern and central regions potentially hitting 35 to 38 degrees Celsius. In Germany, temperatures are forecast to range between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.

In Italy and the central Balkans, temperatures are expected to reach between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius. The heatwave is also expected to affect Bosnia and Herzegovina and Greece. At an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters, temperatures could be 8 to 12 degrees above the long-term average.
