European AI Adoption Surges While Content Infrastructure Declines, Hyland Study Finds
A benchmark study of 3,000 European IT decision‑makers conducted by Hyland shows that AI deployment across enterprises has exploded, with 15% of organisations now using AI in every key system – a 650% rise from 2% in 2025. At the same time, the foundation needed for AI, the content services layer, fell sharply, with its maturity score dropping 13 points to 56 out of 100, the only category to decline. Overall digital maturity in Europe improved to 69/100, up six points from the previous year.
Half of the firms report fragmented, hard‑to‑access data that hampers reliable AI use, and 50% say their systems are insufficiently connected, a problem that reaches 64% in Germany. About 42% of organisations are fully cloud‑based or have migrated most workloads to the cloud, up from 32% a year earlier. Nearly 60% of European companies see innovation pilots stall because of data silos.
The study warns that rapid AI adoption without parallel investment in content infrastructure could stall progress and waste investment.
