European and US stock markets decline as mixed data and sector downgrades weigh
The Prague Stock Exchange slipped modestly, with the PX index closing down 0.09% at 2,613 points. CEZ shares fell 0.72% after a target‑price cut by Fio Bank, while other Czech movers included a 0.70% rise for Erste Bank and a 1.05% gain for Moneta Money Bank. German equities were weaker, the DAX losing 1.37% as Siemens Energy dropped 8.9% following a Barclays downgrade, and Infineon Technologies fell 8.3%. Beiersdorf, SAP and Fresenius Medical Care posted the biggest gains. In the United States, major indices fell, led by the Nasdaq Composite, which dropped more than 1% after a broad sell‑off in semiconductor stocks. Intel fell 9.66%, Micron 4.71% and AMD 6.51% as investors reacted to a lackluster earnings report from Samsung and news that Chinese firm DeepSeek is developing its own AI chip. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones posted modest losses, while commodities saw gold dip 0.3% to $4,162 per ounce. Across the three markets, mixed economic data, corporate downgrades and sector‑specific pressures drove the declines.
