European Championships: Quadarella wins triple gold in swimming; Riva takes marathon silver

Athletes are competing in the final stages of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham and the European Aquatics Championships in Paris.

In Birmingham, Pietro Riva secured the silver medal in the men's marathon with a time of 2:09:18, finishing behind Germany's Amanal Petros. The Italian women's team earned second place in the team marathon event, led by Rebecca Lonedo and Sofiia Yaremchuk.

In Paris, Simona Quadarella achieved a triple gold at the European Aquatics Championships, winning the 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, and the 400m freestyle with a new championship record of 4:01:34. Other notable results include silver medals for Benedetta Pilato in the 50m breaststroke and Thomas Ceccon in the 100m backstroke, both losing by a single hundredth of a second.
