European Aquatics Championships: Shanahan wins gold and sets British record
At the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, Scottish swimmer Katie Shanahan won the gold medal in the women’s 200m backstroke. Shanahan set a new British record with a time of 2:06.13, surpassing the previous national mark of 2:06.66 established by Gemma Spofforth in 2009.
In the women’s 100m breaststroke, Irish swimmer Mona McSharry secured a place in the semi-finals. McSharry finished second in her heat with a time of 1:05.97, trailing Great Britain’s Angharad Evans. Fellow Irish swimmer Ellie McCartney also advanced to the semi-finals after placing eighth in the same heat.
