European Athletics Championships deliver historic wins in Birmingham

The European Athletics Championships in Birmingham have seen significant milestones and dramatic finishes across several disciplines.

In the men's 100 meters, Romell Govea secured gold with a time of 10.09 seconds, following the withdrawal of Marcell Jacobs due to injury. Govea finished ahead of Jeremiah Azu and Germany's Owen Ansah. In the men's hammer throw, Wojciech Nowicki claimed his first major gold with a throw of 84.25 meters, setting a personal record. Miltiadis Tentoglou secured his fourth consecutive European long jump gold with a leap of 8.44 meters, while Nadine Visser won the women's 100m hurdles in a photo finish with a time of 12.97 seconds.

Earlier in the competition, Jakob Ingebrigtsen made history in the 5000 meters, winning his fourth consecutive title and earning his seventh individual European gold, equaling the record held by Sandra Elkasević. In the women's 100 meters, British sprinter Amy Hunt took gold with a time of 11.00 seconds, narrowly defeating Ewa Swoboda. Other notable performances included Jessica Schilder winning her third consecutive European shot put gold and Italy's Leonardo Fabris defending his shot put title with a throw of 22.31 meters.
