European Athletics Championships in Birmingham Offer €50,000 Gold Crown Prizes

European Athletics announced that the ten best performances in each discipline at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham (10‑16 August) will receive a €50,000 cash award and a Gold Crown trophy. The initiative, first introduced at the Rome 2024 edition, is intended to strengthen the championships by attracting top athletes and enhancing the event for fans, sponsors and broadcasters.

Portugal will send a record 55‑member team, featuring world‑class competitors such as triple‑jump champion Pedro Pichardo and 1,500 m runner Isaac Nader. Other highlighted athletes include pole‑vault star Mondo Duplantis, middle‑distance runner Jimmy Gressier, and 800 m specialist Keely Hodgkinson, all of whom are expected to contend for the new prize.
