European authorities raise concerns over EU fund usage in Italy
The European Court of Auditors has expressed concern regarding the Italian government's use of European funds. Tony Murphy, president of the Court, described the use of these funds to cover car tax exemptions as a “problematic” and “dangerous precedent,” noting that it may cause European taxpayers to lose control over funds intended for climate and digital transitions.
In a separate development regarding the protection of EU resources, the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) and the Carabinieri held an operational seminar in Sardinia. The meeting focused on combating organized crime and fraud targeting European funds, particularly those allocated to agriculture and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Authorities emphasized the need for strategic collaboration to mitigate high illicit profits in these sectors.
