European automotive market trends show high depreciation and shifting brand popularity
Recent automotive data reveals distinct trends regarding vehicle depreciation and market popularity across Europe. An analysis by carVertical focusing on Hungarian data shows that the Nissan Micra experiences the highest depreciation, losing an average of 72 percent of its value over five years. Other models with significant value loss include the SEAT Ibiza (69.7 percent), Alfa Romeo Giulietta (67.4 percent), and Honda Jazz (66.7 percent).
On a broader European scale, electric vehicles show high depreciation rates, led by the Jaguar I-Pace, which loses approximately 73.1 percent of its value over five years. The Land Rover Range Rover and Nissan Leaf also follow with substantial decreases.
In terms of market popularity, an analysis of 34 European countries during the first half of 2026 indicates that Toyota is the leading brand in terms of the number of countries where its models rank first. The Toyota Yaris Cross is the most frequent top-selling model across various nations. Skoda and Dacia also maintain strong market positions, with Skoda leading in five countries and Dacia in four. While crossovers remain popular, traditional sedans and hatchbacks continue to lead in several specific markets.
