European battery storage firms expand projects in France and Germany

Envision Energy will supply a 193 MW/386 MWh battery energy storage system for renewable producer Kallista Energy at Neuilly‑en‑Thelle in northern France. Construction began in July and the plant is slated for commercial operation before spring 2028, with Envision providing a 25‑year service and end‑of‑life battery recycling plan.

In Germany, battery storage developer Zenobe has acquired Bavaria‑based sdp energie, giving the group a pipeline of about 1.75 GW of transmission‑connected BESS across six German sites. The acquisition combines Zenobe’s pan‑European operating experience with sdp energie’s local market knowledge to accelerate deployment of grid‑supporting storage assets.

Both moves illustrate a rapid scaling of large‑scale battery storage in Europe, aimed at strengthening grid resilience, integrating renewable generation and supporting decarbonisation of power systems.
