European Boxing Championship held in Sofia features diverse athletes

The European Boxing Championship is currently taking place at the Asics Arena in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event marks a significant milestone as the first championship held under the auspices of European Boxing to include both men and women in a single venue.

In an innovative move, the tournament will feature demonstrations by athletes with special needs. On September 25, athletes with Down syndrome will perform special demonstrations to showcase boxing as a sporting art. This initiative was developed through collaboration between the Bulgarian Boxing Federation and the Federation of Adapted Physical Activity.

Bulgarian national athletes are also competing for medals. Scheduled matches include European vice-champion Venerlina Poptoleva against Lenka Bernardova of the Czech Republic, Roselin Bachevski against Jozef Kostur of Slovakia, Ergunal Sebachtin against Maxim Rudyk, and Rumen Rumenov against Malik Hasanov of Azerbaijan.
