European Elite Boxing Championships begin in Sofia

The 2026 European Elite Boxing Championships are taking place at the Asics Arena in Sofia, Bulgaria, featuring over 400 athletes from 44 countries competing across 14 weight categories. The tournament serves as a significant platform for international rankings and Olympic qualification.

National teams are heavily represented in the competition. Italy has sent 11 athletes, including six men and five women. France is participating with a squad of 13 boxers, including seven men and six women. Turkey has entered 19 competitors, consisting of nine men and 10 women, following a successful 2024 campaign where they secured five medals.

Among the notable individual stories is Amy Broadhurst, the former Irish world and European champion who is now competing for Great Britain. This tournament marks her first major return to competition after motherhood and represents a critical step in her pursuit of Olympic qualification.
