European car owners face rising maintenance costs and seasonal risks
Vehicle owners in Europe are facing significant financial challenges regarding car maintenance and repair. A study by the German Insurance Association (GDV) reveals that the cost of spare parts has increased by an average of over 80 percent since 2016. This growth, averaging 5.9 percent annually, has significantly outpaced the general inflation rate of 2.8 percent. Experts attribute this surge to industrial design protection laws that grant manufacturers a near-monopoly on exterior components, preventing independent manufacturers from offering cheaper alternatives.
In addition to rising part costs, the German automobile club ADAC has issued a warning regarding seasonal maintenance. Accumulating autumn leaves can clog drainage channels, particularly in vehicles with panoramic sunroofs. Such blockages can lead to water ingress, causing damage to interior upholstery, mold growth, and expensive electrical failures in modern vehicles where sensitive electronic modules are located near floorboards.
