Greek firms lead AI adoption among Eurozone companies
A recent European Central Bank (ECB) study of about 6,000 enterprises in 12 Eurozone countries found that 70% of Greek businesses have used artificial intelligence (AI) in some capacity, matching the overall Eurozone average. Significant AI use was reported by 12% of Greek firms, well above the Eurozone mean of 7%, while 29% reported moderate use and another 29% sporadic use.
Among Greek industrial companies with more than 50 employees, 66% had invested in AI technologies by June 2025 – the highest share among the surveyed countries. In contrast, only 18% of smaller industrial firms (fewer than 50 staff) had made such investments. The services sector showed a reverse pattern, with 22% of smaller firms investing in AI versus 11% of larger ones.
Greek companies expect roughly 10% of their total 2026 investment budget to be allocated to AI, driven mainly by goals to improve business processes, administrative functions and supply‑chain efficiency. The main obstacles cited were skill shortages, data‑protection concerns and scepticism about AI outcomes. Sectors highlighted include industry, trade, construction and services.
