European children face legal discrimination and online health risks

A court in Agrigento, Italy, sentenced the municipality for indirect discrimination after unlawfully reducing assistance hours for a severely disabled child, ordering compensation and legal costs. The ruling highlighted that fewer than 20% of eligible families pursue legal action, leaving many children without entitled support.

Separately, UNICEF’s report on Galicia, Spain, revealed that nearly 80% of primary‑school children hold active social‑media accounts, with early smartphone adoption and limited parental supervision contributing to emotional distress, anxiety and exposure to inappropriate content. Experts warned that the pervasive online presence constitutes a public‑health concern for minors.
