European Churches Celebrate Feast of the Twelve Apostles' Assembly

On 30 June, churches in Europe marked the Synaxis of the Twelve Apostles, a liturgical feast that honors the original disciples of Jesus Christ. The observance follows the preceding memorial of Saints Peter and Paul on 29 June and highlights the meaning of “Synaxis” as a gathering of the faithful to commemorate the mission of the apostles.

Both German and Greek publications described the celebration, recalling the list of the twelve apostles—Peter, Andrew, James the Greater, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James the Less, Simon the Zealot, Judas Thaddaeus, and Matthias who replaced Judas Iscariot after the betrayal.
