European cities identified as top budget and cultural travel destinations

Various reports highlight affordable and lesser-known European destinations for travelers seeking alternatives to major tourist hubs.

According to The Guardian, cities such as Nantes, France, which features industrial-turned-artistic sites like Les Machines de l’Île, and Basel, Switzerland, known for its art and design, are recommended for city breaks. Other notable mentions include Lübeck, Germany, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Parma, Italy, which offers Renaissance art without the crowds of Venice or Florence.

In terms of budget, an analysis by Thomas Cook identified several cities where daily costs remain under 100 euros. Tirana, Albania, was ranked as the most affordable at approximately 59 euros per day, followed by Bucharest, Romania, at 66 euros. Other budget-friendly options include Warsaw, Poland, and Antalya and Istanbul, Turkey.
