Dinamo Zagreb overturns 0-2 deficit to beat Thun 3-2 in Champions League qualifier

Dinamo Zagreb recovered from a 0‑2 half‑time deficit to defeat Swiss side FC Thun 3‑2 after extra time in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League second‑qualifying round at Maksimir. Thun opened the scoring in the fourth minute and added a second through captain Marco Bürki in the 22nd minute. A VAR review in the 67th minute saw Bürki shown a direct red card, leaving Thun with ten men.

Dinamo equalised through Dion Drena Beljo in the 74th minute and Lukas Kačavenda restored parity four minutes later. The match went to extra time, and Moris Valinčić netted the decisive goal in the 112th minute, securing a 3‑2 win and progression to the third qualifying round where Dinamo will face the winner of the KI Klaksvík vs Kauno Žalgiris tie.

The victory guarantees Dinamo a minimum of €3.695 million in UEFA prize money and ensures a place in the European autumn calendar. The result also altered AEK Athens’ chances of being seeded in the Champions League playoffs. Technical failures caused Swiss broadcaster SRF to lose video and audio feed during the match, temporarily replacing the broadcast with a concert.
