European collectors and regulators focus on precious metals and rare coins

Collectors are increasingly seeking rare coins, with some 2-euro specimens fetching high prices on online platforms. For instance, a 2007 Monaco Grace Kelly 2-euro coin has reached values of up to 3,500 euros. Other notable examples include a 2015 Monaco coin valued at 2,300 euros and a 2024 Cyprus coin valued at 1,180 euros. The value of such coins depends on condition, mintage, weight, and demand.

In Austria, the National Council has passed a resolution to improve protections against unscrupulous practices in mobile gold purchasing. The move follows warnings regarding mobile buyers who use high-price advertisements to pressure individuals into selling precious metals under opaque conditions. While not a ban, the resolution tasks the Ministry of Economy and Finance with examining measures such as increased transparency, mandatory reporting, and enhanced authority inspections to prevent fraudulent transactions.
