European Commission allocates 130 million euros for drone defense

The European Commission is allocating an additional 130 million euros to enhance anti-drone capabilities among Member States. This funding, provided through the Border Management and Visa Instrument, aims to strengthen border surveillance and improve responses to emerging security threats.

This latest injection brings the total European funds dedicated to surveillance technologies and drone defense systems to over 500 million euros. The investment is intended to help authorities improve situational awareness, protect external borders, and mitigate risks from unauthorized or hostile drone activities.

The decision follows concerns regarding hybrid warfare, where third countries are accused of using drones to disrupt or test European response capacities. These activities have been particularly noted on the EU's eastern flank, involving electronic interference and alleged sabotage operations.
