European Commission approves 52 million euros in Spanish agricultural diesel aid
The European Commission has authorized 52 million euros in Spanish government aid to the agricultural sector to compensate for rising agricultural diesel costs. The Commission described the measure as “necessary, adequate and proportionate” to support economic activity on farms.
The price increase is attributed to external factors, specifically the crisis in the Middle East, which has impacted irrigation pumping and product transport. While the European Commission has validated the aid regime, the specific criteria for distribution among farms, the payment schedule, and the exact amounts per farm remain to be determined by the Spanish administration.
