European Commission considers simplified Schengen visas for business travelers

The European Commission is exploring reforms to the Schengen visa code aimed at simplifying travel for business professionals. The proposal seeks to address current inconsistencies in how Schengen member states handle business travelers and certified companies, which currently creates administrative burdens for multinational corporations.

Key measures under consideration include the creation of a common registry of approved companies. Employees of these verified organizations could benefit from expedited visa processing, priority appointments, and simplified documentation requirements. Additionally, the Commission is studying the possibility of issuing multiple-entry visas valid for more than five years to reliable, frequent travelers.

These measures are currently in the planning stages as part of a broader visa policy strategy. Specific eligibility criteria for companies, the profiles of eligible travelers, and practical implementation details have yet to be finalized. The Commission emphasizes that any reforms will maintain rigorous security checks and individual dossier assessments.
