Italy addresses healthcare through investment, policy, and prevention

Italy is addressing various facets of healthcare, ranging from economic stability to individual prevention. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized that political stability attracts investment in the pharmaceutical sector, which remains a key pillar of the Italian economy alongside mechanics.

In Rome, institutional discussions focused on the constitutional right to health and the challenges facing the Italian and European healthcare systems. Experts highlighted the need for cooperation between member states and the importance of primary prevention, particularly regarding cardiovascular health. This is supported by the European Commission’s Safe Hearts Plan, which aims to strengthen risk factor screening.

On a clinical level, new research published in PLOS Medicine suggests that adequate REM and deep sleep can significantly reduce the risk of various diseases, including dementia and heart failure. Additionally, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) noted that generic medicines are essential for the sustainability of the National Health Service (SSN) and ensuring patient access to treatments.

Community-level initiatives continue through local health screenings, cardiovascular awareness podcasts, and public wellness events like the Cardio Race in Rome.
