European Commission launches European Water Academy

The European Commission has launched the European Water Academy, a new initiative designed to strengthen technical and professional capabilities within the water sector. Part of the European Water Resilience Strategy, the academy aims to bridge the gap between research, administration, and operational practice to address challenges such as climate change, pollution, and aging infrastructure.

The academy will function as a network connecting public administrations, universities, research centers, operators, and businesses to facilitate knowledge sharing and skill development.

Italian water infrastructure operator Acea has joined the initiative as a ‘First Champion’. Acea plans to contribute through specialized training programs starting in January 2027, including an Executive Master in Water Management developed with 24ORE Business School, as well as technical learning paths focused on water treatment, quality, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure management.
