European Commission proposes new tachograph rules for bus drivers

The European Commission is proposing new regulations for smart tachographs used in occasional passenger transport. Under the new rules, bus and coach drivers may split their mandatory 45-minute break into multiple segments, provided each segment is at least 15 minutes long. For trips lasting at least six days, drivers may shift their daily rest period by one hour, provided it does not compromise road safety or working conditions. Total daily driving time must not exceed seven hours.

Transport associations, including Česmad Bohemia, have raised concerns regarding software updates. Industry representatives argue that software updates and repairs for technical errors should be provided free of charge by manufacturers or suppliers, similar to automotive recalls or mobile phone updates, rather than being passed on to the end customer.
