European Commission redirects resources to match Moldova's rapid EU reform pace
The European Commission is reallocating internal resources to keep pace with Moldova's rapid rate of reform as the country pursues European Union accession. EU officials noted that the speed of implementation in Chișinău has outstripped the capacity of the Commission's enlargement department to monitor and evaluate progress effectively.
Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos confirmed she held discussions with Moldova's new Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, regarding the next steps in the accession process. Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, described the reforms undertaken over the last five years as ‘unprecedented,’ citing political will and public determination as key drivers.
While Moldova has made significant technical strides, its political path to membership remains linked to the accession of Ukraine. The Commission is currently working to adapt its technical expertise and resources to match the pace set by high-performing candidate countries.
