European Committee of the Regions holds sessions in Maastricht and Cáceres

Polish regional representatives participated in recent sessions of the European Committee of the Regions in Maastricht and Cáceres.

In Maastricht, the CIVEX Committee held a two-day meeting focused on EU regulations and democratic resilience. The committee adopted four key opinions: a pact for the Mediterranean region, the ProtectEU terrorism prevention program, an initiative to reduce EU bureaucracy for smaller local governments, and guidelines for the long-term integration of Ukrainian refugees. During a conference on democracy, Marek Bańkowski, Mayor of Bukowsko, addressed the assembly regarding the historical context of World War II in Poland.

In Cáceres, Spain, the Committee on Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU Budget (COTER) met to discuss EU cohesion policy and funding. Witold Kozłowski, Vice-Marshal of the Małopolska Voivodeship, represented the region and presented the position of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group. Discussions centered on supporting eastern EU regions bordering Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, specifically regarding infrastructure, transport, security, and dual-use investments.
